Hepatitis A & Your Health

 

Hepatitis A virus is caused by poor conditions of living and sanitation. This type of hepatitis is caused by a virus that spreads from fecal material to water and food. The period of incubation of a hepatitis A  virus can go from 15 to about 45 days.

 

Symptoms

 

The symptoms of hepatitis a are very similar to those of the flu. Vomiting, nausea, fatigue and abdominal pain are some symptoms of hepatitis A . Furthermore, if your urine is dark or your skin and eyes turn yellowish these are tell-tell hepatitis a symptoms.

Treatment

 

If show signs of hepatitis a symptoms and you think you have hepatitis A see your doctor right away. Your doctor  will do some further tests to see if you have hepatitis A or not.  In cases of hepatitis A, the best treatment is to get plenty of rest and stay away from sexual contact. Hepatitis A can last between two weeks to one year.

 

Vaccine

 

There are currently two hepatitis A vaccines available.

 

One of the hepatitis A vaccine is for those that have already been exposed to the hepatitis virus and the other hepatitis A vaccine is to prevent hepatitis A.
