Hepatitis C & Your Health

 

Hepatitis C, like hepatitis B is also spread by contact with blood that has been contaminated.

 

Symptoms

 

More than half of hepatitis C patients have no hepatitis C symptoms at all. However, some hepatitis C symptoms include loss of appetite, nausea, fatigue, and the appearance of  yellow skin and eyes. The hepatitis C virus can cause chronic liver disease and is the leading reason for liver transplant.

 

Treatment

 

Hepatitis C is cured with a combination of pegylated interferon alfa-2b and ribavirin.

 

About fifteen percent of hepatitis patients will actually get rid of the hepatitis virus completely.

 

If you think you have hepatitis C see your doctor right away. Hepatitis C virus can exist undetected for periods as long as 10 to 20 years, and researchers estimate that millions of people are infected and have not yet displayed any hepatitis C symptoms.

Not all people that are infected with the hepatitis C virus actually need treatment. If you have hepatitis C it is best that you talk to your doctor and see whether you should take the hepatitus c treatment or not.

 

Vaccine

 

For this particular type of hepatitus c, there is no vaccine.
